2012 Stark Barbera, Damiano Vineyard
The Barbera block sits on a steep slope above the Primitivo and Viognier that we get from this small family owned vineyard. The 2012 vintage was perfect for this site! We had a long growing season which kept the balance of fruit ripeness, acid and tannin. The color is an inviting deep ruby. Brambly, red fruit and floral aromas are accented with pomegranate and red licorice. These aromas are supported by spicy plum, anise, cracked pepper and delicate cured meats on the palate. The finish is long with bright fruit and crisp acidity.
Planted in 1997, the Damiano Vineyard sits at an elevation of 1,800 feet in the Sierra Foothills near Auburn in Placer County. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and planted solely to Viognier, Primitivo, Barbera and a small amount of Petite Sirah. In 2012 we added all three red varietals to our portfolio and we utililized all of the red wine grapes that Joe farms on his 6 acre vineyard.
